Ali-Lull Wedding

Hey everyone.  I thought it would be easiest to keep everyone informed of what is going on with the wedding by starting my first blog.

Erika Lull and I were engaged on September 1, 2010 while sailing the sea's on our Alaskan cruise.  That morning I was speaking with Erika's brother, Andrew, about my thoughts of proposing on the cruise.  He said we should check out the shops and see if there is anything worthwhile, and if there was we would go from there.  We trolled the shops in search of the perfect ring.  We stopped in a small shop that specialized in jewelry, watches, and other duty free treasures. I was searching through all the gems, diamonds, and pearls when two original rings caught my eye.  In my mind decision time just became real :).  As I was comparing the two rings and mulling over prices in my mind I began to sweat thinking about the life changing decision I was about to make.  I had to put the rings down and step out on the deck for some fresh air.

After about 30 minutes or so I returned to the jewelry shop and selected the ring I was going to use to propose to Erika that night at a formal dinner.  I was nervous all afternoon thinking about what I was going to say, and how was I going to do it.  I decided it would be during the desert portion of our dinner.  After a quick shower and a dual application of deodorant we headed down the narrow hallway to catch the elevator to the deck where dinner was being served.  The ring was in my left pocket and I remember trying to strike a pose that would revel the outline of the ring box in my pocket.  We all sat down to enjoy a nice dinner where everyone was dressed up and looking their best. I made it to dinner, surprise still in tact.  After a quick main course it was time for desert, and I remember feeling sweat start to form at the top of my forehead.  Andrew kept looking at me as if he was telling me do it now or else.  I stood up to excuse myself to go to the restroom and told Erika that she needed to scoot in so I could get by.  When she stood I grabbed her by the shoulders and put our foreheads together.  I told her how much I love her and how much she means to me.  While holding back tears I knelt down on one knee and as the girl of my dreams to be my wife.  The surprised look on her face was priceless, but the tears started flowing and a confident yes was the response.

When we returned from the cruise all we could think about was planning the wedding.  Today is February 12, 2011 and we are well on our way to shaping our perfect wedding.  We will be married on August 14, 2011 at the Browne's Point Improvement Club in Browne's Point Washington.  We did not plan on having a big wedding and tried to keep a limited budget as we are also saving for a house.  Though with all big things are budget seemingly increased as we started to secure various vendors for our wedding.  So far we have the reception site and the caterer.  This week we are going to a tasting to ensure the caterer's food taste good, and then meeting with a photographer next weekend.  That is the history of the engagement and where we are today.  Stay tuned for weekly updates :)

Love Yusuf Ali and Erika Lull
